In an article entitled Disaster Resilience and People with Functional Needs that appeared in the New England Journal of Medicine, on December 13, the authors cite San Francisco’s disability integrated model of disaster preparedness as a model practice disaster planning for the whole community. More specifically, the article mentions the government and community-based organization partnerships and the creation of a disability services coordinator position within the Incident Command structure of the City’s disaster response.
