Carla Johnson, CBO, CASp - Interim Director

Carla Johnson has dual responsibilities as an Access Compliance Officer and Emergency Planner. She performs plan check and field inspections on publicly funded construction projects to assure compliance with the ADA and other accessibility requirements. She is also collaborating with the Department of Emergency Management and other City agencies to develop and implement better disaster planning for people with disabilities.

A member of the disability community since 1992, Ms. Johnson is a graduate of the University of California Berkeley where she studied Architecture, City Planning, and Geography. Ms. Johnson is also a Certified Building Official (CBO) and a Certified Accessibility Specialist (CASp). She has over thirty years experience in the construction industry and was a licensed general building contractor before working fifteen years at the San Francisco Department of Building Inspection as a field inspector, Senior, and Chief Building Inspector. She previously managed the Disabled Access Division, and served as the Secretary to the Access Appeals Commission, and has been the Incident Commander for DBI's emergency response at landslides, rockslides, and building collapse.
